Biliary (canine babesiosis) is a tick-borne blood parasite infection that can make a dog dangerously ill very quickly, so pale gums, weakness, fever, loss of appetite or dark urine mean your dog needs a vet urgently, the same day. In South Africa the dangerous Babesia rossi is spread by the tick Haemaphysalis elliptica, which a University of Pretoria study found active through the year in Pretoria, so tick and flea prevention should be ongoing. A tick and flea wash treats your dog on the day but does not replace the prevention your vet recommends.
