Grooming Toy Poms: what their coat needs
- Pomeranians have a thick double coat: a soft, dense undercoat under a longer outer coat.
- Loose undercoat gets trapped and forms knots, especially behind the ears and on the back legs.
- Shaving a double coat very short is generally not recommended, so we usually trim rather than shave.
How often?
A groom every 4 to 8 weeks suits most Poms, with brushing at home in between.
Between grooms
- Brush through to the skin a few times a week, especially behind the ears.
- Use a slicker brush and a comb for the undercoat.
- Brush more often when the coat is shedding.
