Grooming Yorkies: what their coat needs

Yorkies have long, fine, silky hair rather than a thick undercoat, and it keeps growing.
Fine hair tangles and mats easily, especially behind the ears, under the legs and on the tummy.
Hair around the eyes can irritate them if it is left long, so we keep the face neat.

How often?

Because the hair keeps growing, most Yorkies need a trim every 4 to 8 weeks. A summer cut can stretch it a little longer.

Between grooms

Brush a few times a week, right down to the skin, to stop tangles forming.
Wipe around the eyes gently with a damp cloth.
Book a nail trim if you hear nails clicking on the floor.
